The
interdisciplinary field of biomedical informatics draws
on computer technology, information technology, the
biosciences and health care systems. Significant
breakthroughs in biological research have produced a
barrage of data worldwide in areas such as genome
analysis that hold the promise for a healthier future.
At the same time, the need for expanded efficient and
effective health care in today's global society is
spurring continued growth in health care businesses
while creating demand for technological advances and
improved health care delivery systems. To continue these
advances, the biomedical community requires expert
support in collecting, organizing, sharing, analyzing
and disseminating biomedical data and information.
